International Overdose Awareness Day

Spreading awareness about social concerns and issues is the first step towards helping each other to live a better and healthy life. Every year International Overdose Awareness Day is celebrated on 31st August globally. People come out in support and in solidarity with the patients by sporting purple ribbons on the chest or shoulders. The main aim is to spread awareness about the negative impacts of drug and alcohol use, and problems associated with such addictions and also guide individuals to motivate themselves to get rid of such overdose.

One of the main goals of The Luminous Care is to ensure social awareness about drug and alcohol overdose amongst everyone in the city and elsewhere also. Some of how The Luminous Care Celebrates Overdose Awareness Day are:

  • Centre Celebrations: All our centres celebrate International Overdose Celebration Day. It is the most important day for us and our patients, families, our well-wishers and everyone associated with The Luminous Care.
  • Acknowledgement Programmes: All our patients of the past and present are invited. Some come up to share their success stories to help the other patients overcome this phase. While some talk about losing members of family or friends or relatives due to overdose. It’s a way to appreciate the ones who were strong enough to face the path of recovery and also show sympathy to those who struggled and yet lost the battle.
  • Conference: A conference is organized for the Doctors who come together to discuss different case scenarios, and progress reports, appreciate recovery patients and make visitors more aware of the pros of therapy and cons of overdose & addictions.
  • Rejuvenation for In-house Patients: Special programs are organised, visitors and family members are invited, and some fun games and activities associated with overdose therapy are incorporated for a much more meaningful celebration.
  • Neighbourhood Awareness: A donation camp, A blood camp and an Awareness camp combined together are set up by members of the The Luminous Care team, family and friends of patients to ensure maximum reach and awareness. They sometimes share stories, promote care and support for such individuals, talk about therapy programmes offered and encourage people to report signs of overdose in the neighbourhood for safety.

Towards A Better Future….

It is extremely necessary to be on time to understand the signs of drug and alcohol use from an early age so that therapy can be provided. It can be anyone around you: family members, friends, neighbours, well-wishers etc, but your one kind step can change the further course of action for many. We at The Luminous Care are truly dedicated to the cause of saving lives and helping people overcome this problem but it will not be possible without everyone out there. So, let us remember those who lost their lives to overdose and pledge together to make our lives healthier, our neighbourhoods safer and celebrate International Overdose Day with a spirit of kindness and strength.
